Liu’an

Liu'an Village
The village is located in the north part of the center of Jiali District, with Xinghua Village to the North, Haicheng and Anxi Village to the west, Dongning Village to the south, and the north part of Min'an Village in the east, and it has the tribes of Liu'an Tang, Shixing, Dong-shi-jiao, Liu Feng, etc. For that reason, we think Liu'an Village is named after Liu'an Tang. The village was established in 1946 with an administrative region largely from the north of Jinxue Rd., the south of Shang-Der Ranch, west of Huang Zhu Wei to the West of Chianan Xiao Long Irrigation. The main highways are Provincial Highway 19 to Suejia and Sigang and provincial Highway 176 to Matou, having the education institutes of Beimen Senior High School, Pei-men Senior Agricultural and Industrial Vocational School and Jiali Library, and the temples of Xin Sing Temple and Cheng Huang Temple. Moreover, we have recreational areas including Jhongshan Park, Jiali Sugar Refinery, the Senior Citizens' Activity Center (in the Jhongshan Park), and for art we have the Hsin Ho Hsing Puppet Show Troupe.

Soulangh Cultural Park is a reconstruction of the Jiali Sugar factory, opened to the public in 2005. In the park, there is a huge open area, south and north galleries, 4 lines of warehouse-style exhibition areas, a sugar train, etc., so they were divided into the exhibition area, railroad landscape area, Fountain Plaza, Activity Plaza and Avocado Walking Trail. The park is quiet and a place with both intellectuality and perceptuality and good for a family trip.
Now it has become the Culture and Art exhibition area. The doors having the Taisugar logo, and on each hall are the old doors of the Sugar Factory, presenting a diverse cultural appearance between the old and the new.

Chianan Irrigation is the heart of irrigation in Chianan Plain. To create the affable and delicate Waterfront Landscape, Taiwan Chia-Nan Irrigation Association completed the construction of the green landscape in Soulangh Irrigation in 2008. Cultivating flame gold-rain tree, willow, green maple, flame tree and soon, heavily landscaped the perennial short shrub and croton along the irrigation coastal area, though the tree species are strewn at random, the landscape has obvious layers and color. The rainbow bridge across the coastal area with night illumination gives a soft and romantic waterfront landscape to Soulangh Irrigation.

Jiali Park was originally the location of the Beimen Shrine in the Japanese rule period, having ancient trees towering to the skies and green shade. It is an important recreational area for the residents here. Moreover, there is a sculpture of Sin-rong Wu, the pioneer of literature of the Saline land and the memorial of 7 gifted scholars in Beimin. It is worth seeing.

Der Shan Hall pays attention to the concept of health. It insists on using fresh eel, which is the unique thickening material that breaks the tradition with the top level spice herbs. Its sour, sweet and salty flavor is suitable to the residents so don’t forget to drink the nutrient- enriched eel bone soup treated by the store owner.

Uncle Douhua~ Huang Longjia
Babu! Babu!~~~ Douhua is here~
When I heard Babu Babu sounds coming from very far away, I knew Uncle Douhua was coming. So, I would go down with my own bowl or pot in my hand, hurry in and say, “Uncle Soy Pudding, I want to buy NT $50 of soy pudding, please.” The satisfaction of tasting a bowl of soy pudding and the anticipation I felt in buying it myself has been an unforgettable memory for me. Uncle Soy Pudding has sold soy pudding since 1994. Now, 21 years later, I can still see Uncle Soy Pudding riding his pedicab tricycle to sell his soy pudding around Liu'an Village, the Sugar Factory, Lai Cian Liao Industry Area and so on. I remembered one time, when I passed by the Animal Feed Factory of the Farmers' Association, and I heard a passerby say, “It’s Uncle Soy Pudding; let’s see how heavy your bike is. Wow! About 600 kg.” The worker held up his thumb and said to Uncle Douhua, “You have a pair of genius feet.” He pedaled his pedicab tricycle manually and used his tricycle so frequently that it broke easily. As time went on, Uncle Soy Pudding exchanged his pedicab tricycle for a locomotive-type pedicab tricycle and has replaced three pedicab tricycles already.
In its flourishing period, over the last 10 years, during every lunch break, several hundred workers from the Ching Luh Shoe Factory Co., Ltd would came to the booths and buy goods. With more than 10 booths, diverse goods like soy pudding, black tea, shaved ice dessert, etc. are sold here. As the shoe company gradually moved their business to mainland China, the crowds also left. However, some former shoe company workers would bring their children to Uncle Soy Pudding’s booth and tell their children, “This is the booth of Uncle Soy Pudding. Mommy has had eaten soy pudding here since she was little.” Though the flourishing period has passed and the prices are high now, Uncle Soy Pudding’s booth is still there for the customers who love Soy Pudding. He will continue to ride his locomotive-type pedicab tricycle around the Lai Cian Liao Industry Area, Dingpu, Xiaopuzhong, FaiziLiao, etc. to sell his soy pudding. Though the booth is just soft tofu, black tea, oden, and black pudding, the happiness shown on the customers’ faces is more important than the types of food the booth offers.
People call the owner of Doufu Booth either Uncle Soy Pudding or Uncle Oden, but the name is not that important. What I do know is that my Dad got involved with the food and beverage industry thirty years ago. He rode the Food Truck to many places around Jiali, selling breakfast, oden, and soy pudding until now. Though just selling soy pudding, it provided enough food and clothing for the family.
