 Nanshr Village
The village is in the south part of the downtown, having Anxi village in the north, Long'an Village in the south, and it includes the tribes of the Yijiao, Shi-yi Jiao, Shi-san Jiao,Shi-wu Jiao, Shi-liou Jiao, Nanshi, etc. We think the reason why the name of village has Nan (south) in its name may be either the area is in the south or named after Nanshi, which means it is a village situated in the south. The village was established in 1946 with an administrative region from the south of Shengli Rd., the east of First Cemetery and the north of Chia-Nan Daliao Irrigation. Moreover, the main highways we have here are South District Highway 41 to Sigang, South 37 to the roads of Wenzinei. The famous agriculture product here is green pepper. Its vegetation period is 60-70 days with year two cultivation methods and are sold out right away during harvest time. Other than that, we have sugarcane and corn in Nanshi, as well. In the region, we have the education institute of Jiali Junior High School, the temples of Guang An Temple, Jin Tang Temple, Zengyo Temple,  Liu Li Temple, Yomin Temple, Wan Ying Temple and Chiu Lung Temple and among them, Jin Tang Temple is a class III historic building as well as the center for the Soulangh incense every three years. As for folk art, we have the Songjiang Battle Array of Chiu Lung Temple in Shi Liou. In terms of art groups, we have the Mei Fang Taiwanese Opera Troupe, Deng Xing Ge & Lou Xing Xing Puppet show Troupes, etc.

Established in 1698, originally called Dai Tian Fu, it has experienced reconstruction several times and one renovation. During the reconstruction in 1918, it changed its name to Jin Tang Temple. The Yinming Pavilion in the temple built in the Ching Dynasty is still well-preserved and many ceramic fragment art works made by Master Jing-long Ho have high cultural and artistic value.
A Class III Historical Site, it has the wonderful fragmented ceramics made by Master Chin Lung Ho and Bao-yuan Wang, and its granitoid rilievo in the back of the temple is the largest granitoid art piece in Taiwan. The two earliest sculptures of Dr. Sun Yat-sen are located in the penthouse. It is the only temple that keeps sculptures of Dr. Sun Yat-sen. Soulangh incense used every three years is one of five incenses in Tainan. The unique procession for Soulangh incense is made a centipede procession of real people, including 108 children dressed up as 36 ploughs and 72 evils. The 201.8 meter long centipede array displayed in the parade of the Soulangh Incense Ceremony in February, 2011, became the new Guinness World Records breaker as the world’s longest parade. The values of a wonderful history and the building art of Jin Tang Temple are hard to explain in few words, so you are welcome to come and book a tour guide to learn more about Jin Tang Temple. Due to the location of the temple, there is a morning market at the Zhongshan Market, and vehicles have difficulty getting in. For those who want to drive to visit us, we recommend you come in the afternoon.

Wu Sin-rong, an important writer of the Saline land during Japanese rule, as well as being one of 7 gifted scholars in Beimen. Shimin is his courtesy name, and he was also known as Zhenying and Jo Xing with the retired name of the owner of Suo Lang Shan Fang. He went to study medicine in Japan in his early years, and after coming back to Taiwan, he lived in Jiali District and devoted himself to being a practicing doctor who saved people and had a deep love for literature. His writing in “Groaned the Death of the Wife” is so sincere that it was honoured as the “Six Chapters of A Floating Life in Taiwan-version.”
He led people to promote Taiwanese literary activity in the Saline land and cared about the native soil. After the war, Mr. Sin-rong Wu not only devoted himself to the collection and arrangement of regional history and completed two books, “The Seasonal Journey of Nanying Literature” and “The Tainan County Notes,” but also tried his best to keep local literature.
Therefore, in thanks for his contribution of the collection of regional history and for his high social status in Taiwanese literature, we put his sculpture in Zhong San Park.
Prof. Liang-Ze Zhang has summarized three contributions of Sin-rong Wu:
1.Pioneer of the Literature of Saline Land
Before the retrocession, the range of Saline Land was Jiali, Syuejia, Jiangjun, Cigu, Beimen and Sigang. In 1932, Sin-rong Wu established the “Ching Feng Association” to develop the literary style in Saline Land. The writer of Saline became a member of “Taiwan New Literary Magazine” founded by Kui Yang as a new poetry committee member. Sin-rong Wu was an editor of “Taiwan Literature” founded by Wen-Huan Chang. For that reason, we know literature in Taiwan plays an important role in the development of the literature of Saline land. Sin-rong Wu is the pioneer of the literature in Saline land due to his special status.
2.The senior member researching local Taiwanese culture as well as establishing the model of local Taiwanese cultural research.
The information of Nanying Literature he edited is the earliest record of local Taiwanese literature. Due to his site visits and investigation, we have not only preserved precious and reliable historical records in Tainan, but have established a model for doing local Taiwanese cultural research.
3.Sin-rong Diary passed down to the next generation
The diary of Mr. Sin-rong Wu was written in three languages: Taiwanese, Japanese and Chinese. In the diary, societal changes from the era of Japanese rule to 1950 were faithfully written. It is so important that the The National Museum of Taiwanese Literature has published it as the “Sin-rong Wu Diary.”
