Jiali District Office, Tainan City

The original name of this village is Sian Yi, and it used to be the location that Cheng’s family garrisoned troops and of the sugar industry. Due to being part of Jiafu Village, we have only one tribe, the Dingbu, and Haicheng Village to the east. The village was established in 1946 with an administrative region from the south of Yang ping Elementary School, the west of Jia Huang Industrial Co. area with Cigu District in the west. The main highways in this village are town highway South 27 to Jiangjun Dist., South 28 to Ching Kun Shan, and South 29 to Cigu District. In the region, we have the educational institute of Yang  ping Elementary School, the temples of Yong An Temple and Zhong Yi Temple, the folk arts of the Songjiang Battle Array in Yang Ping Elementary School, Jun Wu Jhou Puppet Troupe, and the Eight Generals of Zhongyi Temple. 

Originally old rural collective land and unused due to its inferior quality, in 2006, the Development Association of Yengping Community improved the space through Renaissance planning called “Sugar and Flower Fragrances Around the Hometown.” A bamboo house was constructed to create the culture image of the sugar industry, and ancient sugar squeezing tools (Shi che) and Kou Min cooking vessels for sugar boiling were built. Sugar refining and manufacturing appeared with the over 200-year-old sugar mill.

The Chinese Medical Hall founded by Chinese medicine doctor Chingsan Hsu in the Japanese ruled period, who lived in Xia Ying Zhuang. Dr. Hsu specialized in venation and pharmacodynamics and had superior skills, and was a master who taught venation to doctors of Chinese and Western Medicine in Beimen Village. The architectural style of Chee Seng Tong is a two-story baroque style building. The unique feature of the building is that there is an eagle sculpture stand in the center of the roof. The location of the other standing eagle in Jiali District is on the roof of a street house at No. 331, Zhongshan Rd.

The Liuguang Range in Yangping Community produces high-quality milk and is famous in the community. It later on extended business to the high-quality Beverage & Ice industry and established a fresh milk brand called Milk Shop. At present, there are over ten chain stores in south Taiwan, and there are also international brands in China.

The Community Development Association has recently tried its best to promote community industries related to winter melon tea and peanut brittle. Applying the concept used in the development of sugar mills to make winter melon tea and peanut brittle, which is to cultivate the winter melon in open spaces and use the winter melon to make candied melon and sell it for the benefit of the community. In the recent two or three years, it even developed many products like peanut brittle and sesame candy.

Ching-gi Hsu was a litterateur of the Saline land during the period of Japanese, as well as one of seven gifted scholars in Beimen. His creations were mostly poems. Sometimes Hsu would randomly publish his pieces of writing. His writings are full of social realism and the protest spirit of different nations. After the war, he stopped writing poems and essays and devoted himself to the gathering, arrangement and research of country slang and songs.    

 

Dingbu Village together with the village called Sian Yi used to be the place where Cheng’s garrison troops were located, with the original name of Xiabu Village because it is to the south of Dingbu Village. In 1963, due to the promotion of the million labors, government chairman Zhirou Zhou went to Xiabu Village for an inspection. He thought the pronunciation of “Xiabu” sounded like the words for one’s private parts and was indecent, so he changed the name to Jiafu Village on April 1, 1963. The village is located in the northwest part of Jiali District, having Dingbu Village to the north, Anxi Village to the Southeast, Haicheng Village to the northeast and Cigu District to the west. The residents in Jiafu Village mostly cultivate crops and lead a simple, rural life. The main agricultural products are carrot, rice, sugarcane and corn, with a few fish farms. The houses in the Jiafu Community are mostly three-section compounds with modern buildings crisscrossing in between. The Zhen An Temple is the main religious center in the area and Song-Jiang Jhen Battle Array is its famous folk art.

Jiafu Community actively promoted environmental improvement and cleaning, and the community development association has fought for many subsidies to build community landscapes. Many residents donated their private open spaces to the community to become community parks, turning Jiafu Community into a true model community.

 

Jiafu Community is known for its landscaping creativity. When walking around the community, you will see old houses and red brick walls everywhere. In them, after renovation by the descendants, Chen Family Old house become more elegant than it used to be.
