Zilong Village
The village is named after Zilong Temple. The temple worships Zi Long Zhao. In 1661, after getting rid of the Dutch in Taiwan, Koxinga actively turned Taiwan into a base for overturning the Qing Dynasty and reinstating the Ming Dynasty. Meanwhile, there was Lioushu Lin from Tongan County, Fujian province who followed Koxinga to get rid of the Dutch in Taiwan. After that, he was assigned to cultivate the place where Zilong Temple is located now and became the first ancestor who visited Taiwan. The desolate land was cultivated afterward by Lioushu Lin, and its population is increased and twenty years later, it gradually became a tribe. Today it is the tribe-style “Zilong Temple,” situated to the southeast of Jiali Xing Castle (Tianxing County), the Soulangh Castle (now called Jiali) and Matou Castle to the east, called Dong Shi Liao in the old days (in Matou) and now “Zilong Temple.” On August, 1753, the resident Qiu Lin saw Cao Liao as decadent so he gathered the elders Yin Lin, Ding Shen, Dai Yang, etc. and suggested that they build a temple. The temple was completed in 1755 and in October of the same year, respectfully invited the statue of Zhao Yuan Shuai to the temple. Due to the fact that Bei Liu conferred the title of “Yang-Chang Ting marquises” to Yun Zhao, it was named “Yong-Chang Temple,” also called “Zilong Temple.” From then on, Matou Castle Dongshiliao changed its name to Zilong Temple. It is the only village that is named after an ancient person. In both the Ming Cheng and Ching period, there was Tianxing County and Xunjiansi established in the Jialixing Castle, and Zilong Temple is part of it. For that reason, every time there is a Zhao Fu Yuan Shuai parade, Jiali Xing is the center one. Temple attendance is good. The recent Zilong Village is situated in the easternmost part of Jiali District, having Sanxie and Min'an Villages in the west and Matou District in the east. The residents here lead simple lives and are faithful disciples of Zilong Temple. Besides, most of them are farmers, although some work with dairy, and the main agricultural products are bitter gourd, corn, rice, sugar cane, Oriental melon and burdock.
